You just bought a house & there's mold. Now what?

What to do when you buy a house and find mold in it

You've just bought a home and it's exciting times!

You took the 'For Sale' sign out of the front yard, moved everything in, and finally feel at home... and then you start the work of painting and remodeling your home.

AND you find mold... not a little but a lot of black mold... and the feeling of panic starts.

How much is this going to cost?

How bad is mold?

How are we going to get rid of this?

First things first. Before you freak out, you've got some things to take care of.

Step #1: Identify the location(s) where the black mold is located.

Where is the mold located (what rooms)?

How big is the area where the mold is located?

Any mold that is 10 square feet or smaller can be mitigated by the homeowner. If you have mold that takes up more than 10 square feet, it should be taken care of by a certified mold mitigation company.

Step #2: Identify negative health effects

Identify any negative health effects from the mold

Are you (or anyone living in your home) experiencing negative health effects from mold (ex: colds, sneezing, coughing, headaches, dizziness, depression, etc.)?

Step #3: Contact a Mold Specialist and get your home tested for mold.

Before you know how to handle and take care of the mold, you need a full picture of the mold that's in your home. Getting a mold test is the best way to secure the information you need.

If you have any concerns about how to move forward with a mold concern, contact Steve at CNC Contractor Services (Email: Steve@cnccontractorservices.com) and we can schedule a phone consultation that will give you a step-by-step personalized mold plan that will guide you through what to do next.
